This series of drawings is a visual representation of the values
and benefits of Torah study. The drawings are framed one on top of
another, creating a vertical alignment that suggests a hierarchy or
a progression. The first drawing features the words תלמידי חכמים
מרבים שלום בעולם, which mean “The students of the wise increase
peace in the world” (Berakhot 64a). The words are arranged in an
oval shape that symbolizes completeness and harmony. In the center
of the oval, the word שלום, meaning “peace”, is repeated many
times, emphasizing the importance and abundance of this quality.
The second drawing features the words מרבה ישיבה מרבה חכמה, which
mean “The more one sits [and studies], the more wisdom one
acquires” (Avot 2:7). The words are also arranged in an oval shape,
suggesting a continuity and connection between sitting and wisdom.
In the center of the oval, the word חכמה, meaning “wisdom”, is
repeated many times, highlighting the goal and reward of Torah
study. The third drawing features the words מרבה תורה מרבה חיים,
which mean “The more Torah [one studies], the more life [one has]”
(Avot 2:7). The words are also arranged in an oval shape, implying
a cycle and balance between Torah and life. In the center of the
oval, the word חיים, meaning “life”, is repeated many times,
expressing the vitality and joy of Torah study. These series of
drawings were created by noted artist Rabbi Nosson Friedman, who is
